Lasers is one of the most captivating technologies in dental practice which has revolutionized several areas of treatment in the last few decades. Laser is the acronym for “Light amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.” Introduced as an alternative to mechanical cutting device, laser is now an instrument of choice in many dental applications. Soft tissue lasers are a good choice for bacterial reduction and coagulation in the treatment sequence and are an excellent choice to be used in a periodontally involved sulcus that has dark inflamed tissue and pigmented bacteria. Evidence suggests its use in pocket treatment, gum surgery, dentinal hypersensitivity, disinfection of root canals, teeth whitening, treatment of dark lips and more recently its utility in salvaging implant which opens up a wide range of applications. Laser systems applying the ablation effect of light energy which is completely different from conventional mechanical debridement, has emerged as a new technical modality for dental treatment.

We at GUMSOPOLIS strive to ensure that our patients receive excellent care and personal attention served with compassion and kindness. We practice modern dentistry in a calm and relaxed environment incorporating the most up-to date and enhanced soft tissue diode laser, Epic- X (Biolase Inc.) in our practice. The system features new software technology and new cordless foot pedal among other notable innovations. With quick surgical capabilities, numerous hygiene procedures and modes for pain therapy and whitening, Epic X is a highly versatile and productive instrument.
The purpose of initial periodontal treatment is to restore periodontal health. Pocket treatment begins in the area of deepest pocket depth and progresses to lesser involved areas. At GUMSOPOLIS we do debridement of hard deposits on the teeth and root surfaces by ultrasonic and hand instrumentation, followed by laser bacterial reduction and laser coagulation of the soft tissue of the surface, reducing inflammation.
The term dentinal hypersensitivity(DH) has been described as a specific condition that is defined as pain arising from the exposed dentin. Typically, pain is brief, sharp, well localized in response to thermal, evaporative, tactile, osmotic or chemical stimuli which cannot be referred to any other dental defect or pathology.
Desensitization with laser exerts a photobiomodulatory effect reducing pain and inflammation at the treatment site.
Diode Lasers can be used in oral soft tissue surgeries and especially small prominent lesions because of easy application, better coagulation, no need for suturing, less swelling and pain as well as for its capability for treatment of physiologic gingival pigmentation from aesthetic point of view.
Gum Recontouring
Laser Depigmentation
Frenectomy
At GUMSOPOLIS we perform soft tissue surgeries viz:
Treatment of black gums (laser depigmentation)
Gum re-contouring
Removal of soft tissue covering partially erupted or impacted third molar.
Soft tissue management of orthodontic and pediatric patients
Removal of abnormal frenal attachment (Frenectomy)
Tongue-tie (Lingual frenotomy)
Laser Assisted Gum Surgery
Laser therapy for gum surgery has been used as an adjunct to scaling and root planing employed in the treatment of gum diseases.
Laser prevents epithelial downgrowth along the flap margin for up to 14 days longer than conventional gum surgeries. It also reduces inflammation due to decreased bacterial count.

Laser Assisted Laterally Positioned Flap (LALPF)
LPF (lateral pedicle flap) is indicated for isolated recession defects on mandibular teeth.LALPF is a treatment approach which combines LPF with an external vestibular releasing incision made with a diode laser for the treatment of single gingival recession defect.
We use Diode laser which can cut ablate and reshape the oral soft tissue with no or minimal bleeding. A passive tension free flap is also achieved. The external vestibular releasing incision reduces edema and ecchymosis.
Health of the tooth is governed by both endodontic tissue and periodontal apparatus. Endo-Perio lesion is the term used to describe the lesion in which the inflammatory products involve both pulp and periodontal tissue in varying degrees. The disease of the endodontium may lead to the involvement of the periodontium and vice-versa. Etiologic factors such as bacteria, fungi and viruses as well as contributing factors such as trauma, root resorption and dental malformations play a significant role in the progression and development of such lesions. With endodontic treatment alone, only part of the lesion will heal to the level of secondary periodontal lesion. Overall prognosis depends on the severity of periodontal damage and efficacy of periodontal treatment.
At GUMSOPOLIS laser is used for disinfection and sterilization of root canal followed by pocket treatment.
“GUMSOPOLIS believes in creating beautiful smiles every day.”
When you smile, Do you feel that too much gum is showing?
Do you feel that your upper teeth are showing?
If the answers are yes you might have what is known as a gummy smile.
We at GUMSOPOLIS work at removing excess gum tissue and the underlying bone providing you with more aesthetic gumline.
“Your Smile, Our Passion, Your Life”
Dental lasers can be useful for delivering and supporting dental implant treatment. At GUMSOPOLIS we use laser for disinfection and degranulation of extraction sockets, for uncovering of the implant, recontouring of the soft tissue around the implant for prosthesis to fit in, for decontamination of the implant surface and to treat peri-implantitis.
Decontamination of extraction socket
Degranulation with laser
Gum Contouring for impression making
Treatment of Peri-Implantitis
Pigmentation of lips can lead to dark colour/discolouration of lips.
Some of the causes of dark lips are:
Excessive exposure to the sun
Cigarette smoking
Consumption of caffeine
At GUMSOPOLIS laser lip depigmentation is done to get an attractive smile where we remove dark spots and make your lips appear pinkish in color.
Laser teeth whitening is an in-office non-invasive treatment that uses laser light and high concentration of hydrogen peroxide to create visibly whiter smile. Laser teeth whitening can reduce yellowing that occurs naturally with age and can make teeth appear several shades whiter, teeth that have become yellow due to smoking and excessive consumption of caffeine.
At GUMSOPOLIS Teeth whitening is done with Epic X laser (Biolase Technology). We apply bleaching gel followed by laser activation which gives a quick dramatic result. Laser treatment gives instant results in just an hour, with no pain and discomfort and makes the teeth appear -6 to -8 shades lighter than the original color.
TMD is a collective term embracing a number of clinical signs and symptoms that involves the masticatory muscles, TMJ and its associated structures. A range of symptoms may be linked to TMD’S, pain predominantly in the chewing muscles or jaw joints which is the most common symptom.
The other symptoms are:
Myofascial pain, internal derangement of the joint associated with dislocated jaw and a displaced disc. Degenerative joint disease is another category including osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
At GUMSOPOLIS low level laser therapy is used which promotes satisfactory results in reducing the pain intensity, number of tender points, joint sounds and improving the range of jaw motion.
Soft tissue diode lasers find potential value in surgical procedures providing surface sterilization, dry surgical field and increased patient acceptance. Diode Lasers are used for soft tissue lesions due to increased success rate and due to the fact that they are readily absorbed by chromophores such as hemoglobin and melanin.
At GUMSOPOLIS we use laser for the treatment of benign oral lesions viz: fibromas, papilloma’s, pyogenic granulomas, gingival hyperplasia due to medications, mucocele, aphthous ulcer as well as premalignant lesions/condition such as leukoplakia and lichen planus
Lichen Planus
Apthous Ulcer
Fibroma
OSMF is a chronic debilitating disease of the oral cavity characterized by inflammation and progressive fibrosis of the submucosal tissues leading to restrictive mouth opening.
At GUMSOPOLIS Dr Mallika uses lasers for surgical management of OSMF, advantages being shorter operating time, less hemorrhage, faster healing, less morbidity, less surgical time,no scarring and relapse.
Mole Removal
Mole is a non-cancerous disorder of pigment producing skin cells commonly called birth marks or moles. There are many reasons for removal of moles:
Aesthetically unattractive appearance
To reduce discomfort while the mole is injured
If the disturbance is related to its localization
Before
After
At GUMSOPOLIS we use laser for mole removal reducing the risk of infection significantly, with no cutting or burning of the skin. Multiple moles are also treated during one session.
